Hello everyone, my name is Rosemary Jimenez Lucero. I have been in in the pest industry for over 15 years and learned a trick or two how to “Do it yourself pest control.” Here are three tips I will share you that you can do at home if you needing to get rid of pest quickly. There are many do it yourself pest control techniques, but these are some that have showed to have some effect!
If you are having a problem with ants going into your home looking for water and food, look where the trail is coming from. See if the ants are coming from the windowsills or the doorways. Here is a trick I learned what you can do with household product; if you have crushed red chili peppers flakes (like the chili pepper flakes you put on your pizza) spread the red pepper flakes along evenly at the doorway and/or window sill. The pepper flakes will keep the ants from entering your home and being a pest. You will see in matter of a day or two the ants are no longer a problem.
It’s that season again, spider season when we will start to see a lot of spiders and webs inside and around our home. Here is a Tip you can do at home with a household product. Vinegar, yes vinegar and apple cider vinegar can help keep the spiders away. Put one-part vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray or wipe areas where the spiders are known to be seen.
Vinegar will also rid those fruit flies you may be have flying around. By adding vinegar in a small container, the fruit flies are attacked to the vinegar scent and will fall into the container and drown.
Used coffee grounds are another household item which you can recycle and reuse to keep those pests away. If you spread a 1-2-inch-thick line around vulnerable areas of your home you will be able to keep the ant colonies from entering your home. The coffee grounds will also keep the snails and slugs from ruining your garden with just a sprinkle of used coffee grounds in your garden.
All these DIY tips are fast and easy ways to help control pests around your house. They are not fool proof and sometimes the pest population is just too big; that’s when you need to be thinking of AIPM! Read more of our blog posts to learn more about pests and how to control them!
